Serpentine Belt Service Recommendation

Serpentine Belt Service Recommendation

The serpentine belt, also known as the multi-vee or multi-rib belt, is a single continuous belt used to drive multiple devices in an automotive engine, including the alternator, power steering pump, water pump, air conditioner and others.

Without the serpentine belt, there is no way to drive power to any of these devices. A serpentine belt should be replaced as soon as it shows sign of fraying badly cracked, or is contaminated with oil. Most manufacturers also recommend replacement every four years, or 50,000 miles for preventative maintenance serpentine belt breaks, all drive power to whatever it turns is lost.
